Some changes are coming – what you need to know.
From 1 October, 2026
Some budgets will be reduced over the following 12 months in two support categories:
- Social, Economic and Community Participation
- Improved Daily Living Skills.
The impacts will be different for every participant because every plan is based on individual goals, circumstances and support needs.
Participant safety and wellbeing are NDIS’s priority, so a range of supports will not be affected, including: essential day-to-day supports like help with eating, drinking, dressing, toileting, laundry, cleaning, nurse care, and medication.
1 December 2026
If you self-manage your NDIS plan, mark this date: 1 December 2026.
From this date, you’ll need to submit claims within 90 days. Right now, you have up to two years. This is a big change, so it’s worth acting early.
If you use independent providers or sole traders, check your service agreements. Make sure it’s clear who submits claims and who is responsible if a claim is late.
What you can do now:
- Review any older claims you haven’t submitted yet and get them in soon.
- Set up a reminder system so new claims don’t slip past 90 days.
- Talk to your providers about the new deadline and confirm who lodges each claim.
Living with Parkinson’s already means managing a lot. A missed claim shouldn’t add to that load.
