The NDIS has announced several changes that may affect people with young onset Parkinson’s who access disability supports.
Changes to support budgets
From October 2026, some NDIS support budgets are being reduced as part of the new NDIS laws. The changes apply to funding in:
- Social, Economic and Community Participation (50%)
- Improved Daily Living Skills (10%)
Not all supports within these categories will be affected. Changes will occur when plans are reassessed or renewed between 1 October 2026 and 30 September 2027. Participants will be advised if their funding is affected. People with high support needs may be able to request a review of their plan.
New claiming deadlines
The NDIS has introduced new claiming timeframes.
- From 15 October 2026, additional checks apply to claims submitted more than 90 days after a support is delivered.
- From 1 December 2026, claims must generally be submitted within 90 days of receiving a support.
- Claims lodged after 90 days may only be paid in exceptional circumstances.
If you self-manage your funding, the NDIS recommends using the participant portal or my NDIS app to submit claims and monitor spending.
Have your say on the new planning process
The NDIS is continuing to test its new planning model before a planned rollout in April 2027. Participants are being invited to provide feedback on how the new approach works for people with different disability support needs.
Participation is voluntary, paid, and does not affect current or future NDIS plans or funding.
New service agreement resources
The NDIS has released updated resources to help participants develop service agreements with providers. New resources include:
- A service agreement template
- A how-to video
- Easy Read information
- Guidance on reviewing agreements before signing
Upcoming webinars
The NDIS is hosting webinars on the new laws, including:
- An overview of the new NDIS laws
- Changes to plan reassessments
- Decision-making under the new legislation
- Using your NDIS plan effectively
- Accessing information, guidance and support
What this means for people with young onset Parkinson’s
If you receive NDIS funding, now is a good time to review your current supports, understand how any budget changes may affect you, and ensure claims are submitted within the new timeframes. If your support needs are complex or changing, seek advice early before your next plan reassessment.
