🧭 Important Update for People with YOPD and Their Providers: NDIS Plan Changes Starting 19 May 2025

From 3 October 2024, changes to Section 33 of the NDIS Act officially came into effect. These changes will start applying to all new plans issued through the PACE system from Monday 19 May 2025.

While this may sound like a technical update, it will have real-world impacts on how your NDIS plan is structured, how your funding is released, and how your providers — including OTs, physios, and support coordinators — deliver your supports.

🧾 What is Section 33 — and Why Was It Changed?

Section 33 outlines what must be included in your NDIS plan. Previously, plans could be vague, with unclear budgets and limited transparency around how funds were meant to be used.

To fix this, the NDIA has restructured plans to be more consistent and easier to understand — a recommendation from the 2023 NDIS Review.

The goal? Better budgeting, clearer expectations, and improved oversight.

🔍 What’s Changing?

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Total funding will be visible: Your plan will now show the full amount of funding you’ve been allocated — no more guesswork.
  • Supports grouped into components: Instead of listing every item, funding will be grouped into categories like Core, Capacity Building, and Capital.
  • Funding periods introduced: Each component will have a set timeframe (usually 12 months), and funding may be released quarterly instead of all at once.
