If you’re living with Young Onset Parkinson’s and have children aged 12 to 25 who help care for you or another family member, they may be eligible for the Young Carer Bursary Program, a national initiative that provides $4,000 to help young carers stay in school or study while managing their caring role.
Applications for the 2026 bursary are open NOW and close at 11:59pm AEDT on 7 November 2025
This bursary can be used for:
- School uniforms, textbooks, and stationery
- Laptops or software for study
- Transport to and from school or uni
- Some school fees or tuition
- Respite care or emotional support
- Extracurricular activities and camps.
Who is eligible?
Your child may qualify if they:
- Are aged 12–25 (younger carers may be considered if attending secondary school)
- Provide unpaid care to someone with a disability, chronic illness, mental health condition, or frailty due to age
- Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Are enrolled in high school, TAFE, university, or another recognised education provider
- Are not receiving another bursary or scholarship over $500 for 2026
- Do not already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification
