VYALEV® offers new hope for people with advanced Parkinson’s

We’re excited to share that a new treatment for advanced Parkinson’s — VYALEV® (foslevodopa with foscarbidopa) is now available through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). This means it’s more affordable and easier to access for Australians who need it most.

What is VYALEV®?

VYALEV® is a 24-hour infusion therapy that delivers medication under the skin using a small pump worn close to the body. It helps restore dopamine levels in the brain, which are often low in people with Parkinson’s. Dopamine is a chemical that helps control movement, mood, balance, and coordination.

Why is this treatment important?

Many people with advanced Parkinson’s experience “on” and “off” periods, times when their medication works well, and times when it doesn’t. These ups and downs can make everyday life very difficult.

VYALEV® helps reduce these fluctuations by giving a steady dose of medication all day and night, which can lead to:

  • More consistent symptom control
  • Better movement and coordination
  • Improved independence and quality of life.

Approved and now affordable

VYALEV® was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) last year, but until now, it was not on the PBS. Thanks to a tireless campaign by Parkinson’s Australia, it is now listed on the PBS, making it affordable and accessible for those living with advanced Parkinson’s.

  • The decision to prescribe VYALEV® should be made by an authorised healthcare professional in consultation with you.
  • VYALEV® therapy is only suitable for people who are levodopa-responsive.
  • Treatment should be started and monitored under the supervision of a healthcare professional with expertise in the management of Parkinson’s.
  • If you’re a patient or carer, it’s best to speak with your care team first, as some products, including Vyalev, may have patient support programs available through clinics or specialists.
